Explosion-proof equipment is the equipment operated in explosive environment (dust, gases and vapours) subject to compulsory certification.

GOST 22782, GOST R 51330, GOST R 52350 and GOST R IEC 60079 standards apply in Russia, they govern classification, requirements to the design, testing methods and marking of explosion-proof electrical equipment.

In accordance with the above regulations explosion-proof electrical equipment is classified and subdivided into groups, subgroups, temperature classes, levels and types.
